Our Future Health

Our Future Health – the UK’s largest ever health research programme is running a clinic for volunteers in Thame to give a blood sample and take part in key research, has launched at Chinnor Rugby Club,  Kingsey Rd, Thame OX9 3JL

Backed by the NHS and Government, the initiative is designed to help people live healthier lives for longer through the discovery and testing of more effective approaches to prevention, earlier detection, and treatment of diseases. They’re aiming to recruit up to 5 million adults to be able to create a resource that truly reflects the UK population, so that we can identify differences in how diseases begin and progress in people from different backgrounds.  Around 155 mobile clinics have opened their doors to the public since last autumn, and over 1 million volunteers have taken part.

The programme is sending invitations to people who live near the new clinics. However, anyone over the age of 18 can join by signing up online. Volunteers give their consent to join the research programme and provide secure access to their health records, complete a questionnaire and book an appointment to have a blood sample taken, plus some physical measurements. Participants will also be offered personalised information about their own health, including their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

The clinic in Thame will remain open for a few weeks until around mid-January.
