A message from our Mayor!

Christmas is a very special time of year, and I would like to wish all the residents of Thame, and your friends and family, a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I hope you are excited to take part in all the events Thame has to offer, and I am sure you will see me wandering around the town centre, looking for presents in the Christmas window trail, or oohing and aahing over the wonderful displays our local businesses have made! If you see a window you love, don’t forget to vote via the QR code in the shop’s window! I wish our town a wonderful Christmas period, and a healthy and happy 2024!

Thank you to all involved

Thame Town Council would like to thank the businesses and volunteers who have contributed their time and money to ensure that Thame’s amazing community spirit will shine through for yet another year.

Thank you to ASM for sponsoring our Christmas Tree this year, and to Lightfoots Solicitors who sponsored the stage for the Christmas Light Switch on event.

Christmas Town Trail – a wildlife safari

This year, the Nutcrackers who you will see stationed outside the town hall, have hidden presents in 25 windows around the town centre. Each of these presents is wrapped in brown paper, and has an origami animal attached to the top, inspired by Thame COP who want you to learn more about the impact climate change is having on animals.

Your challenge is to find the present, work out which animal it is, and enter your answers on our form

As well as entering the town trail competition – make sure you take part in their Wildlife quiz below, for an extra chance to win a prize!

Walking in a Wildlife Wonderland

Now, the animals taking part in this part of our Christmas celebrations are not your typical Christmas animals! They are animals that are struggling to survive, so we wanted to do something to support them in the following ways:

  • Thame Library will be displaying some wildlife themed art work created by primary schools children, and members of the community, in a fabulous Christmassy display. These will focus on the habitat of animals who are endangered in Britain.
  • Thame COP will be outside Thame Town Hall in early December, finding out what you think about different issues being raised at COP 28. They want to know what local people think so please stop by and chat to them, to share your views.

Once you have completed the Wildlife safari trail around Thame’s town centre windows, why not also take part in the quiz brought to you by Thame COP

Geared at children ages 6 – 12, all correct entries will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win:

  • some fabulous books about our Environment, kindly donated by Adroit Services
  • A hedgehog house for your garden (if you have one), kindly donated by 21st Century Thame

Find out more about what is being done locally by 21st Century Thame to help wild animals in Thame to survive and thrive! This is work you can be a part of, so if you want to attract a hedgehog, owl, pollinators or more to your own gardens, this will help you find out more.
