Happy Christmas from the Mayor of Thame

I would like to wish the community of Thame a very Happy Christmas and New Year!

The Council look forward to you and your families taking some time together to enjoy the festive activities taking place throughout December here in Thame. The details of which can be found below.

Throughout 2021 we have seen a return to some normality after what has been challenging times for so many. The Council are looking forward to 2022 when Thame will welcome back many of the much-loved town events that we have missed so much over the last few years.

The Council wishes everyone in Thame a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year,

I hope Santa is nice to each of you.

Town Mayor, Paul Cowell

Christmas Lights Switch-On

Friday 3rd December, from 5:30pm
Sponsored by Lightfoots Solicitors
Hosted by Paddy Harris (Cornerstone Church) and Anthony Taylor (Grace Church)

  • Music brought to you by Thame Concert Band
  • Mulled wine available from OX9ers
  • Stilt Walkers
  • Santa will turn on the lights at 6pm alongside three children – one from each of our primary schools.

The Big Gift Give

As part of this year’s switch-on we would love to have hundreds of gifts under the tree, donated by the people of Thame, for people in need. All gifts need to be new and unopened, and with best before dates after Christmas for food. There are 3 gift choices:

    1. Bring a wrapped toy/game for a child with a tag attached to say which age and gender of child the gift would suit (please don’t give guns or weapon type gifts). The Red Kite Centre and Thomley Hall will help to distribute these.
    2. Cosmetic and clothing items for Love in a Bag Thame to distribute to the homeless and vulnerable. Please see for item lists. Fill a whole bag or just bring a single item! Unwrapped please.
    3. Long life tins and food to support local refugee families through Asylum Welcome in Oxford, and other agencies. Refugee children will also receive gifts and toys.
