Countdown until the switch-on!
Friday 6th December 2019
Event open: 4pm-7:30pm, Switch-On: 6:30pm
Thame’s Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place on Friday 6 December 2019. We are looking forward to welcoming back our Santa’s Grotto and Reindeer as well as all the family favourites including the lantern parade, entertainment, children’s characters, refreshments and gift stalls, plus more to be announced! Look out for the Steam Train offering rides throughout the evening.
Our ever-popular Christmas Town Trail returns for 2019! This year 24 steam trains (pictured) are hiding in shop windows around the town centre on Buttermarket, Cornmarket, High Street, Upper High Street, East Street, North Street, Swan Walk, Friday Court and Greyhound Walk.
The Town Trail will open on Tuesday 12 November and run until Monday 2 December with entries being accepted until 4pm on that day! Children who take part will get the chance to win the opportunity to turn on the Christmas lights at our event on Friday 6 December 2019, and other fantastic prizes. Competition entry forms are part of a ‘Christmas in Thame’ booklet that will be distributed through school book bags and available at Thame Town Hall from Tuesday 12 November.
The following fantastic performers will be joining us:
- Louise Jane School of Dance
- Thame Youth Theatre
- DAS Performing Arts

It wouldn’t be a Christmas Lights Switch-On without some special guests! We’re pleased to announce that, fresh from the launch of Frozen 2, snow sisters Anna and Elsa will be roaming our event and can’t wait to meet you!
We are now fully booked for stalls for 2019. Discover the perfect Christmas present from over a dozen local gift and craft stalls! Our biggest Christmas Food & Drink Market will feature globally inspired refreshments – tasty street food from the Caribbean and South Africa; wood-fired pizzas; gourmet coffees; American smoked meat; German sausages and loads more! As well as two mulled wine stalls, look out for the gin & prosecco cocktail stall.
Make sure to show support to the local charities who will be fundraising on the evening with festive tombolas, running activities and serving refreshments.
