Foodbank use has nearly doubled in 2023

It’s 20 years since Sharing Life was set up in Thame in 2003, with its primary aim being the relief of poverty and hardship both locally and internationally.

In 2023, the charity has been busier than ever, with an ever-growing number of people in our local area struggling to afford basic living costs. Two of the key day-to-day activities of the charity are running the Thame Food Bank and weekly Thame Community Larder.

Thame Food Bank is providing more food parcels than ever before, with demand in 2023 nearly double compared with 2022. This means that, whilst the charity is very grateful for all the donations of food they receive in local supermarket collection bins, they are having to buy in food each month to meet the rising demand.

To address these rapidly rising costs, Sharing Life needs regular givers. If you would like to help, they invite you to become a ‘Friend of Thame Foodbank’ and set up a regular donation, or you can also make a one-off donation. You can sign up via the Sharing Life website here

In addition, you can download the BanktheFood app, which provides an up-to-date list of the most needed items, so that you have it to hand when you do your weekly shop.

Thank you – on behalf of Sharing Life – for your continued support.  Working together, we can endeavour to ensure that everyone locally has enough food to eat and can afford to heat their homes.
