Recognition for Thame

We are pleased to report that The Boundary Commission for England (BCE) recommended last week that the Parliamentary Constituency known as Henley will be renamed to Henley & Thame, from the date of the next general election.

This proposal was initially made through Thame Town Council in 2008 and one Councillor in particular has made it his mission over the subsequent years, lobbying BCE at every opportunity with ever increasing evidence as justification for the change. This announcement follows many submissions and frequent disappointments when previous reviews have failed to come to fruition but, during the most recent Boundary Review, the proposal received wide support and was finally successful in persuading the Commission that the status of Thame should be formally recognised.

A small victory perhaps, but significant in that our town will now have greater prominence not only in Westminster but also in media reporting of local politics.
