Plans for the month of May

Thame is lucky to have amazing annual events that were in the calendar before the announcement of the Coronation taking place on Saturday 6 May. Two popular events that will be returning are Music in the Park on Sunday 30 April, which will start off Thame’s Coronation celebrations and for a second year Taste of Thame will return to the town centre, celebrating with the ‘Buttermarket Banquet’ street party and promoting our independent food and drink businesses within Thame and the local area.

A King Charles III cypher flag will be flown outside the Town Hall throughout the month of May and bunting displayed around the Town Hall, Montesson Square, High Street, Buttermarket and the Tuesday Royal Charter Market.  Look out for the red, white and blue Window Wanderland in the town centre where businesses will be participating in a Coronation competition, to be judged by the newly elected Mayor.

To mark the occasion, all the primary school children will be presented with a bumblebee friendly packet of wildflower seeds to grow at home and a Coronation colouring sheet that can be displayed at the library. Working in partnership with Thame Trees, it is planned that an oak tree will be planted as a permanent reminder of the Coronation.

Residents are being encouraged to organise street parties over the Coronation bank holiday weekend and celebrate with their friends and neighbours as they did for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As part of the ‘Big Give’ on Monday 8 May, Thame Town Council will be providing a grant of £1500.00 from the Coronation Budget to Sharing Life Trust, who in partnership with Citizens Advice are supporting those families in Thame and Moreton with food parcels who are financially struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis.

We welcome your photographs of your street parties to display on our website throughout May!
