Switch-On Success!

Last Friday evening saw hundreds of residents come together to countdown to Thame’s Christmas Lights Switch On. There was music from Thame Concert Band, games hosted on stage by Paddy Harris (Cornerstone Church) and Antony Taylor (Grace Church), stilt-walking reindeer, free Santa hats handed out by Town Council staff, mulled wine supplied by the OX9ers and of course a visit from the big man himself! Santa took some time out of his busy schedule to come and turn on the lights with 4 children who had been nominated by local primary schools; Rosie & Zac from Barley Hill School, Evie from John Hampden School and Sofia from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

It was lovely to see the people of Thame turning out in great numbers and so generously supporting this year’s new initiative, the Big Gift Give. Thame Cars and Thame Freight kindly provided vans and the Co-op provided storage crates, which were soon filled with toys and long life food that Thomley Hall and Asylum Welcome were thrilled to receive this week. The team from Love in a Bag Thame have also done an amazing job collecting loads of items for the homeless and their support at the Big Gift Give was hugely important as they gathered in some final items. 16 large crates of toys and a van full of food were donated which are already well on their way to being given to families and refugees who need them most, so thank you people of Thame – you are amazing!

Thame Town Council is very grateful to Lightfoots Solicitors for sponsoring the switch on event and to ASM Auto Recycling for providing our stunning Christmas tree.

Thank you so much for coming along and supporting the event. Make sure you enjoy the rest of the activities throughout December.
