Christmas is coming … and not even Covid-19 will stop it!

Santa’s elves (well the ones based in Thame anyway) have been working hard to come up with some plans to make sure that – despite the restrictions Covid-19 has brought to our lives – Christmas will be celebrated in style. True, the normal big Christmas Light Switch on celebrations that we have come to know and love will not take place this year – but in its place will be an advent calendar of activities for you to enjoy. And when we say Advent Calendar – we mean 24 different activities to celebrate Christmas in Thame.

Community groups and businesses across Thame have rallied together to put on a feast of activities and mini-events for everyone. There will be art exhibitions, gift fairs, and street food markets – all delivered in Covid-safe environments; plenty of Christmas trails, including Thame’s first ever ‘ADVENTure Trail’, an illuminated outdoor ‘Window Wanderland’ and a ‘Christmas Spirits Trail’ to do on your phone; there will be doorstep carol singing, pop-up carol singers from Thame Choral Society and unexpected visits from the cast of ‘Babes in the Woods’ -Thame Players January Panto; children can get involved in Christmas crafts, an online Christingle, visit our Giant Nutcracker and take part in our Great Nativity Dress up days – with discounts to be had at local shops (adults too if you are brave enough!). And SO… MUCH…MORE!

Thank you to ASM Auto Recycling for donating the tree, Thame Cars for sponsoring our Giant Nutcracker, Lucy electric for supporting our Window Wanderland and to Martin & Co Estate Agents for supporting the printing of our booklet. Thanks also to all the businesses who have generously supported the activities through the provision of prizes: Rumsey’s Chocolatier, Baban Boutique, Planet Health & Organics, Wally’s Toy Shop, The Book House, Bizzie Lizzie Flower Shop, fitch & fellows, The Adroit Services Partnership, and Waitrose. The event simply wouldn’t be possible without the generous support we receive from local businesses and the community. The Town Council wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A booklet containing the details of all of the events will be delivered to each home in Thame, and can also be picked up from Waitrose or next to the Christmas tree outside the Town Hall.
