Thame Community Speedwatch
What is Community Speedwatch?
Community Speedwatch (CSW) is a community-operated initiative, it is designed to help Thames Valley Police with the volunteers to officially monitor speeding vehicles in areas of concern in Thame.
Thame Town Council have been working alongside Thames Valley Police and local communities to promote road safety, help to reduce speed and educate drivers.
Community Speedwatch is a scheme to enable volunteers to address speed concerns within Thame.
The volunteers will:
- Undertake a speed watch campaign in a dedicated area that is scheduled on Thames Valley Police Online dashboard.
- Report all speeding vehicles to Thames Valley Police.
Thame Valley Police will:
- Thames Valley Police will send advisory letters to the register owner’s to inform the vehicle owner they were travelling more than the actual speed limit.
- Thames Valley Police will provide updates on how many letters have been sent out in all areas of Thames Valley where the community speedwatch is in place.
Speedwatch is not an enforcement; it is about raising awareness to speeding drivers.
How it works:
- Trained volunteers schedule available time to volunteer for a speed watch campaign.
- There must be a minimum of 4 volunteers in each Speedwatch Campaign.
- There will be a group co-ordinator responsible for the equipment and administration.
- Locations for the monitoring are added to Thames Valley Police CSW Online by the group co-ordinator for approval.
- Trained Volunteers will verify and record the registration numbers of offending vehicles.
- Offending vehicle details are added to Thames Valley Police CSW Online.
- Thames Valley Police will validate the vehicle registration numbers to the owners address.
- Letters are sent from Thames Valley Police to the offenders.
- Persistent offenders will be issued fines by Thames Valley Police.
