Additional information

The success of the Midsomer walking tours has meant that the organisers are actively looking for more tour guides for the 2019 season.

Types of Tour
Midsomer Walking Tours of Thame are held every Wednesday morning between 24th April and 30th October. This year, there are already many additional tours arranged, mainly on weekends over the season, with coach parties booked through tour companies and joint ventures with Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

The tour starts from inside Thame Museum and ends outside the Town Hall. It lasts an hour (with an extension to an hour and a half if the tour takes in St Mary’s Church). There are maximum 15 people per tour, which the current tour guides find is a manageable number when navigating the streets and in order to be heard by all. However, for the regular Wednesday tour, many are booked with lower numbers.

Coach parties can include up to 45 people, so 3 guides are needed, with the second and third guide starting their tour 5 minutes later than the first guide.

They need more tour guides from the start of the 2019 season on 24th April. If you’re interested in doing some tour guiding, it’s important to know you don’t need to be available every Wednesday or every weekend, as there is a schedule enabling guides to do tours in rotation. So it’s possible to guide a tour once or twice a month, for example.

Ticket sale proceeds from these tours benefit the Museum and the Mayor’s Charities. Guides are asked on the regular Wednesday tours to do the tours unpaid but a fee of £20 per guide per tour is payable for tours on other days.

The Knowledge
If you are interested in being a Midsomer tour guide, it helps if you enjoy watching Midsomer Murders but is not essential!  Full training will be given, and a script supplied. It is suggested that you go on a tour with another guide initially, to gain a more hands-on understanding of what’s involved.

Please get in touch if you would like to give this a try!  Contact Tony Long, tour coordinator, by emailing him at thamemidsomertours@gmail.com.
