Lopemede Farm Community Path

On Sunday 14 December, Cllr Andy Gilbert, Mayor of Thame was invited to cut the ribbon and officially open the Lopemede Farm community path. This permissive footpath, which runs through the working farm and newly planted woodland, links up with an existing public footpath.
A group of local residents joined Andy and farmer Eddie Rixon to walk from St Mary’s church, Thame to the farm which is located off the Thame Road on the road to Long Crendon. The farmland extends down to the River Thame and this multi-generation farming business is run on regenerative farming principles, whereby they are restoring the natural capital of the land, planting trees, new hedges, creating new ponds and restoring ghost ponds, that were filled in during the 1950s. They have restored the wetland habitat of our river fields, by creating scrapes for red-list bird species like lapwings and curlews and have created scrub and restored historic wildflower meadows.
