Nominations are now open for the Thame Town Awards 2021

Do you know someone amazing who deserves recognition?

Thame Town Awards are back and it’s time to celebrate our local unsung heroes! Do you know someone who lives, works, studies, or contributes to life in Thame that deserves a Town Award? If so, nominate them! You can make your nomination online via the Town Council’s website, or collect a form from the Town Hall.

The Town Awards launched in 2009 and, this year more than ever, celebrate the amazing local residents and businesses who help their neighbours, support local groups or go out of their way for others to make our community a safer, more vibrant and happier place to live.

Employer of the Year

A local employer that has gone the extra mile to the benefit of its employees and the wider community e.g. supporting community initiatives, offering opportunities and practicing sustainability (employers can nominate themselves for this award).

Creative Arts Contribution

Someone of any age who excels in the Creative Arts and/or has contributed to the creativity of our town. This award covers a wide range of people – from the star of the show to the behind-the-scenes team and everyone in between. Nominations are welcome for any form of creativity.

Service with a Smile

There are so many individuals and businesses who consistently provide a friendly service in Thame, but who do you know that should be recognised for it this year? We’re not just looking for shop assistants – we also want to hear about opticians, carers, cleaners and doctors, to name but a few!

Sporting Contribution

This could be someone (or a team), of any age, who deserves a gold medal for their commitment to a sport or contribution to local sports. Perhaps a player who excels in their sport or someone who goes above and beyond to support their team from the side-lines. We are also looking for those who have made a notable contribution to sporting / fitness within the community.

Volunteer of the Year

Thame thrives on individuals and organisations who selflessly give their time to help others in our community. From fundraisers to friendly neighbours, there are plenty to choose from but who do you think deserves to be awarded Volunteer of the Year?

Volunteer Group of the Year

A volunteer group that has worked tirelessly for the good of our community. This could be a charity, but we also welcome nominations for less formal volunteer groups, who might have formed in response to the pandemic, or any volunteer group that makes a positive difference to their community.

To date, the Town Awards panel has awarded 66 Town Awards to local people. Chair of the Town Awards Panel, Alex Bond, explains more about the awards:

It has been a difficult year so it’s great to be able to recognise those living, working and volunteering in Thame. The awards are well-established and supported by the Town Council as well as local sponsors. If you know someone or a volunteer group who has gone that extra mile to make a difference to others, I would urge you to nominate them for an award.”

Anyone can make a nomination. Visit www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/town-awards/ and complete the online form, or pop into the Town Hall Information Centre and pick up a nomination form. Be sure to follow the Town Awards Facebook page ‘Thame Town Awards’ and on Twitter #ThameAwards to be one of the first to find out who has won a Town Award this year. Nominations open today (22 July) and close on Thursday 19 August. Please visit http://www.thametowncouncil.gov.uk/town-awards for terms and conditions.

This year’s awards are generously sponsored by Pentangle Technology, Red Kite Radio, and Rhubarb Seating.

“It’s an honour for Pentangle to be able to support this event celebrating the talent and goodwill that Thame is brimming with. We’re lucky to have such a strong community and the awards are a great way to recognise it.”

“Red Kite Radio, the Ofcom-licensed community radio service for Thame, Haddenham and the surrounding villages, has been on the air since June 2017. During that time, the station has worked closely with Thame Town Council to bring community information to the notice of all our listeners. As part of that process, Red Kite Radio is delighted to be one of the sponsors of this year’s Thame Town Awards, which recognise the incredible contributions of individual people in our town.”

“Rhubarb is delighted to be sponsoring the town awards.  Having been based in Thame for five years now, we are very aware of how vibrant the local community is, across so many areas of activity, and these awards are a wonderful way to recognise individual contributions to the life of the town.”
