South Oxfordshire District Council is sending questionnaires to 4900 households in the district during July 2008. The information requested is very important to the council as it seeks to assess and help to meet present and future housing needs. Completed forms need to be returned by 06 Augst 2008.
On Saturday 02 August 2008 Thame Infomation Centre at the Town Hall will be open between 10.00am and 12.00pm. The two Town Councillors present will be David Bretherton and Cliff Baker together with County Councillor Nick Carter. All are welcome and no appointment is necessary to see a Councillor. A member of the Customer Services staff will also be there to offer all the usual services available Monday - Friday.
Thame's Southern Road recreation ground will be transformed with the help of two grants from SODC. Adam Barnes at Thame Town Council said "The money goes towards the total cost of the play area which is about £185,000. Our first order is in place so we are looking at starting work in Septmeber. There are going to be three areas with equipment for different age groups - toddlers, infants and teenagers. It's all based around physical challenges and mental ability. There are going to be natural things like boulders and mounds keeping the grass in so it will be open."
Thame Town Crier June 2008, incorporating the Annual Report 2007-2008 is now available from the Town Council's web site, under "Publications".
If you are looking for activities for the summer holidays there is a range of exciting activities from canoeing, trampolining, golf and mountain biking for young people to take part in. So book early to ensure you get a place! For more information visit the South Oxfordshire District Council web site or phone the Leisure Team on 01491 823124. Email: leisure@southoxon.gov.uk.
The Mayor's Civic Reception which was held at Thame Town Hall on the evening of July 23rd for the second year running once again proved a great success and was attended by many local community goups and organisations who were very pleased to be able to get together at the event. It was also an opportunity for the newly elected MP, John Howell to meet local people. Thame's Mayor, Cllr Don Butler presented those past Mayors which were present on the evening with 'Past Mayor' badges of office. He also thanked the Town Hall staff for organising and supporting the event.
Thame now has an honorary Town Crier: Anthony Church (BEM).
Anthony is already the official Town Crier to the town councils of Banbury, Chipping Norton, Daventry and Wallingford and has ‘cried’ for Thame on a number of occasions in the past, including the Town Council's Christmas Event, and last year's Fun Day at the market, pictured here.
